I retired from Education after 35 years knowing I wanted to keep teaching. Another thing I have always loved doing is traveling. In order to combine both loves, I decided to go into the travel business. I love teaching people about the different locations, cruises and fun that can be had when traveling (a learning experience in itself!) Before joining the business, I had a travel agent that was fantastic, reliable and fun to talk to. I decided that if I ever did anything like this, I would copy his way of treating clents. That is what I have done for the past 15 years. I believe in treating everyone with the respect they deserve and ensure that the client has the best experience from the day we begin talking to the day they get back from their trip and beyond.
Since starting in 2010, I have also enjoyed being able to travel a bit more. I have been on over 40 cruises, and have visited 4 continents. I even have a certificate certifying my entering into the Arctic Region. I enjoy coming back and making sure my friends/family/clients all learn about my adventures through pictures and stories. I have written a weekly newsletter for the last 13 years. I make sure that the adventures I have are all documented for those who are interested. When I am not working, writing or traveling, I am constantly learning as much as I can about the industry. While there are many ways to learn or catch up, my learning comes from doing the following:
A) Attend as many webinars as possible, usually as many as 3-7 a week.
B) Attend at least one or two conferences when possible. This is the best way to not only review and/or learn new materials/laws/products but also to connect with our travel partners and fellow franchisees.
C) Attend as many ship inspections as possible. When allowed by the cruise line, I also host ship inspections so that clients can visit and tour the ships as well.
D) Get as much training as possible - examples of my trainings acheivements are: 1) Gold Tier with Virgin Voyages 2) Master Degree with Norwegian Cruise Line 3) Specialist Certificate from AmaWaterways 4) Annual Recertification from Celebrity Cruises 5) Commodore Status with Princess Cruises 6) Specialist certificate with Rocky Mountaineer And one I am very proud to have, 7) Recongnized as a Gold Level Agency (2 yrs in a row) with DreamVacations.
